Hypercalcemia can be asymptomatic or can be a manifestation of serious illness like malignancy. Hyperparathyroidism is a frequent cause of asymptomatic hypercalcemia. Other causes of hypercalcemia are vitamin D related, associated with high bone turnover and renal failure. Vitamin D associated hypercalcemia can be due to excessive ingestion or abnormal metabolism of the vitamin.
